Commodore LenkeDear SYC Friends, As the days grow longer, Springtime is finally here! We had several days that reached the 70° mark. Summer is around the corner. During the Spring meeting, the club membership adopted the revision to the bylaws into the “easy read” format. Again, my thanks to Jame Witzel for all the work that she put into spearheading the changes. You did an excellent job! We had a great Spring cleanup at the clubhouse, with the kitchen being reorganized, the outside landscaping tidied up, windows washed, the rear deck cleaned, and the storage rooms organized. The clubhouse is now ready for Opening Day. In addition to the cleanup, our Vice Commodore, Tyler Clawson and our Rear Commodore, Aaron Jensen arranged with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to have free vessel inspections on the transient dock. This was a great safety check. Thank you, Tyler and Aaron! Our Opening Day Festivities 2024 are in full swing. Our thanks to Tyler and Ronda Clawson for all of their efforts in making Opening Day one of the highlights of the SYC calendar. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea.” Thank You, Tyler and Ronda. Thanks to Cheryl Connor, our new Web Content Director, for producing the Opening Day Flyer and, along with Stephanie Hamilton, distributing to the merchants of La Conner. The South Basin guest dock is reserved for SYC on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 for decorating our boats and subsequent boat Parade on Saturday. The “Blessing of the Fleet” ceremony will be at 1:00 PM at the flag pavilion in front of the clubhouse. There is a mandatory captain’s meeting at 2:30 PM for all those boats that plan on participating in the parade. The boat parade will commence at 3:00 PM at the direction of Vice Commodore, Tyler Clawson. The “Meet & Greet” will be at 5:00 PM at the clubhouse, followed by the 6:00 PM dinner. Brad Reading and Jerry Carr have volunteered to host the Russell Lindsay Memorial Golf Tournament at the Steak Fry on Lopez. This has such special meaning for Jenn, the girls, Brenda and I. Thanks, guys. Teresa and Frank Campbell and Gail and Bill Kortum have volunteered to coordinate the breakfasts for both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Thank You! If you plan on attending the Steak Fry at the Islander Resort, please call Kathy at the Islander (360-468-2233), directly to make a reservation for your slip. SYC will not be making reservations for you for this event. At present, we have 31 boats signed up for this event.
Sincerely Yours, SYC '24 Commodore Greg Lenke Serenity Here's your chance to help steer SYC and serve as a director on the board! Can you send emails? Are you proficient with Microsoft Word? Do you love to collaborate with a group of leaders? That's all it takes to be an awesome Communications Director for our members. Volunteer Vice Commodore ClawsonHello SYC Members! It’s May and the official boating season kicks off this next weekend May 4th with our SYC Opening Day Ceremony and Parade. We will start off at 1pm with the raising of the flags and the blessing of the fleet. After that at 3pm we will have the Annual Opening Day Boat Parade. We hope to have many boats being decorated with the “Under the Sea” theme. We do have the La Conner guest dock “F” reserved for Friday May 3rd and Saturday May 4th so bring your boat and join in the fun. We will have prizes for SYC club members on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the best decorated boat. After the parade, we will have dinner at the club house you won’t want to miss. Dinner will be chicken and/or shrimp fettuccini. Please don’t forget to bring a side dish or a dessert to share! And before you know it one of our favorite events will be the wagon wheel at Garrison Bay on Memorial Day weekend. There are always great potluck dinners and usually a dinghy flotilla. We hope to see you there! As always, Njoy More…boating. SYC '24 Vice Commodore Tyler Clawson NJoy More Rear Commodore JensenHello SYC friends! Longer days means longer evenings out on the water and more time to do all things boating. Our Opening Day ceremony and parade on May 4th is the official kick off to our 2024 season that we all look forward to. Please give a huge thank you to Tyler and Ronda who sponsored this year’s celebration and Under the Sea themed parade! If you are looking for an off the beaten path boating destination, might I suggest the Orcas Island Yacht Club’s reciprocal dock nestled at the end of beautiful West Sound. During our recent stay, we found their dock to be in excellent condition with over 70ft of space on each side for boats to tie up. Rafting 2 boats wide is also allowed for up to 2 nights stay. Although power is not available, we really enjoyed our stay and dinghy rides exploring West Sound and checking out all the boats in the local marina. Check it out! Cheers!
