Commodore ClawsonAhoy Club Members! March 14-16 saw us at Friday Harbor for our Annual Bowling Extravaganza. Thank you to Vickie Birney for hosting the event and for taking care of all the details! Several of us enjoyed cocktails and a lovely dinner at the San Juan Island Yacht Club on Friday night. Saturday morning, we enjoyed mimosas and bloody Mary’s on Stehekin and breakfast on the MarLynn. Later we gathered at the bowling alley for some friendly competition and enjoyed pizza and drinks, while Saturday evening we potlucked our food over to the breakwater on Divinus. Sunday morning, we enjoyed breakfast outside before heading back home. We had approximately 12 boats and 25 people. No matter what the weather turns out to be in the unpredictable month of March, our club members always bring fun and laughter! Congratulations to the bowling trophy winners: Vickie Birney and Ken Witzel! Special thanks to Vickie for all that you did to make it a fun event! And thank you to all the members who came out to Friday Harbor! Our next event is the Annual Clubhouse Clean Up on Saturday, April 5th. Rear Commodore Jame Witzel is working hard on the preparation and planning for this project. Please see her email or contact her about how you can help support our club and make our clubhouse look great again! It’s all of you, the membership, that make SYC a family. Through high and low tides, calm or stormy seas, our members work together. A ship is only as good as its crew, and SYC is the best! Thank you for being a part of the SYC family! We look forward to seeing you at the clubhouse or on the salt! Tyler Clawson - NJoy More Vice Commodore JensenAhoy SYC! What a great event we had in Friday Harbor. Huge thanks to Vickie and all that came and made it happen. The SJIYC knocked it out of the park with their pasta bar and SYC made a strong showing at their clubhouse. We really appreciated the hospitality of their membership and incredible views from their front deck! Looking forward, we are still looking to increase our membership and would love each of you to help spread the word! Rear Commodore Witzel has lots of great plans and ideas for the upcoming clubhouse clean up. This activity is always a great one with a large turnout. We hope you are planning on attending; it helps us keep things “ship shape”. Please remember that our upcoming boat parade theme is “Surf’s Up!” You can all use your imagination to create something amazing for all the spectators! Looking forward to some sunny weather and seeing you out on the water! Cheers, Vice Commodore Jensen Rear Commodore WitzelHappy Spring! As the Rear Commodore my main job is to assist away event hosts. This means helping find hosts, making sure they have all the information needed for a successful event, and reporting back to the Board all the specifics of the event. I want to commend Vickie Birney for hosting our first away event of 2025. She coordinated the meals, kept us on budget, adjusted the plans when the weather gave us rain instead of sun, and even got prizes for the top scoring bowlers. She also filled out the information sheet, as requested, which will help next year's host plan for the event. I would be remiss if I didn't also thank the Jensen, Moore, and Christianson families for the use of their boats for our group breakfasts and dinner. I love that our club members are always willing to open their doors for festivities. I'm also happy to say that the Zach family, along with the Kortum’s, Brad, and Jerry are already making great plans for the Steak Fry in June. We do need hosts for Wine and Dine, the Family Cruise at Roche, and Sucia. If any of this interests you, please reach out. Rear-Commodore Witzel Open Board Positions: We have 2 open Board positions! We are still looking for a Communications Director and a Web Content Director. Both these jobs sound like a lot of work but aren’t and can be very rewarding. Please reach out to anyone on the Board if you would like more information on either position.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE GOING ON UNTIL MAY 1ST !!!I am writing this message because I am wondering if there are any members who are interested in subletting their moorage, in La Conner or nearby, for June, July, and/or August. We kept our 36-foot Uniflite in La Conner for about 25 years until 2018 when we moved it to Seattle so we could live on it while we were building our house. We need to have some work done on our boat at La Conner Maritime Service in early June and would like to keep our boat up in the La Conner area for part of the summer. Also, if any members are interested in trading slips for some of the summer months of sub leasing a slip, we have a 41 foot slip on North Lake Union right across from the Fremont Brewery and just east of Gas Works Park.
